Applicant Portal for Section 8 HCV & PBV Applicants

If you are interested in receiving DCHA housing assistance, you must first apply for admission to the housing program while the waiting list is open. DCHA's Section 8 waiting list is currently closed, meaning that we are not accepting or distributing applications for the Section 8 waiting list. There are no residency requirements to apply. However, DCHA gives priority to applicants who live, work, or attend school in Dane County (click here for more information about preferences).

 

Once you have submitted an application to DCHA, you may create an online account to help you manage your DCHA application(s). Applicant Portal allows you to: 

​

  • view the wait list(s) you are currently on

    • please note that DCHA is currently working with our software company to fix a bug in Applicant Portal that is causing some applicants' applications to incorrectly show as having been withdrawn or to not show up at all.

  • review your application, including family, address, income, and asset information 

  • submit requests for changes 

  • request an update to available wait list preferences

Applicant Portal is one way to communicate with DCHA. There is no requirement to establish an Applicant Portal account. All changes may also be submitted in writing to DCHA by fax, e-mail, mail, or drop-off.

At this time, you cannot upload documentation or verifications to the portal. Documents can be submitted via mail, fax, e-mail, or drop-off. If you are on the waiting list, please ONLY submit preference documentation. Submission of other documentation, such as copies of social security cards or birth certificates, is not necessary while you are on the waiting list. DCHA cannot keep any non-preference documentation submitted by applicants, and it will be destroyed if submitted.

Rent is based on 30% of your gross income.

Valor on Washington PBVs

Project-Specific PBV waiting list opening for veterans & their families.

The Valor apartment community, located at 1322 East Washington in Madison, offers affordable two- and three-bedroom apartment homes for veterans and their families.  8 of the units have Project Based Vouchers (PBVs).

In order to qualify for the PBVs at Valor, applicants must:

 

  • have a household member who is a veteran
     

  • qualify for a two- or three-bedroom unit based on DCHA subsidy standards & their household composition

Landlord Announcement Bulletin:
Carbon Monoxide Detector Requirement

HUD regulations have been passed which require the owners/landlords of all properties that receive federal rental assistance to provide a functioning carbon monoxide alarm/detector, with this requirement being effective Tuesday, December 27th, 2022 (12/27/2022).

DCHA Office Hours

Our office is located at 6000 Gisholt Drive #203, Monona, WI 53713. We are on the second floor of the building.

 

DCHA's office hours are as follows:

Monday - 10:00 A.M. to 3:00P.M.

Tuesday - 10:00A.M. to 3:00P.M.

Wednesday - 10:00A.M. to 3:00P.M.

Thursday - 10:00A.M. to 3:00P.M.

Friday - Closed to Public

If you would like to drop off paperwork at our offices, you can feel free to leave it in the locked dropbox in the hallway to the left of our office door. It is checked at least once daily on business days by DCHA staff.
